Softball Game Preview: Clinton Maroons vs. Argenta-Oreana Bombers

The Clinton Maroons will challenge the Argenta-Oreana Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Clinton: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home, while Argenta-Oreana has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Monday just wasn't the day for Clinton's offense. They came up short against Meridian on Monday, falling 17-0. Considering the last time the Maroons couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Meanwhile, Argenta-Oreana never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Tri-County [Kansas/Shiloh/Oakland] as they made off with a 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bombers, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Elyssa Armstrong's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Brynn Jones and Kharma Giles did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Giles went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Giles has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gracie Manning, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Argenta-Oreana has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Clinton, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Clinton couldn't quite finish off Argenta-Oreana when the teams last played back in April of 2023 and fell 11-9. Can the Maroons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
