The Rustburg Red Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Abingdon Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Rustburg has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Rustburg heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Thursday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (2-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Their loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Abingdon put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Staunton River as they made off with a 12-5 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 contests by six runs or more this season.
Ada Gillenwater was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Gillenwater was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Chloe Thomas looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Abingdon let Scout Summitt and Mariah Branscomb run wild. Summitt went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Branscomb went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits Branscomb has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Capri Firtz, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Abingdon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive games.
Rustburg's defeat dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Abingdon, their record is now 27-0.
