Basketball Recap: Six Straight Home Victories for Palisade

Palisade lost to Montrose back in January, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Palisade Bulldogs skirted past the Montrose Red Hawks 39-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted against the Red Hawks since February 20, 2016.

Palisade's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Delaney Wright led the charge by putting up ten points and eight boards. Wright is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gracie Cooper, who posted nine points and three steals.

Montrose's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Maggie Legg, who went 7 of 13 en route to 19 points and three steals, and Mayce Oberg, who earned 13 points. That was a full 35.1% of Montrose's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Palisade's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. As for Montrose, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 17-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Durango the next time they take the court. Palisade will host Durango at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Montrose will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on February 14th.
