Basketball Recap: Three Straight Road Victories for Wheaton Academy

Wheaton Academy had won three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped up to 4-3 to make it four. They beat the Harvest Christian Academy Lions by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 55-37. The Warriors have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lions, too.

Wheaton Academy found their leader in freshman Noelle Nichols, who went 8-for-10 to rack up 18 points along with five boards and five steals. Nichols is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when she posts at least five steals the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when she doesn't). Addie VanderLugt was another key player, putting up seven points and seven steals.

As for Harvest Christian Academy, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 8, 2021, but that streak is no more.

Harvest Christian Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Paige Nestrick, who shot 50% from the field on her way to 10 points and eight rebounds, and Adyson Nelsen, who went 5-for-11 en route to 14 points. Nestrick also posted a block, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kelly McLoughlin, who posted seven points and five boards.

Wheaton Academy has already played their next matchup, a 51-47 loss against Parkview Christian Academy on the 4th. As for Harvest Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-36 defeat against Johnsburg on the 4th.
