Preview: Glen Cove Big Red vs. Wantagh Warriors
The Glen Cove Big Red will head out on the road to face off against the Wantagh Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Glen Cove took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 48-19 win over Division. The win was just what Glen Cove needed coming off of a 42-0 defeat in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Wantagh had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They didn't even let Bethpage onto the board and left with a 35-0 win. The result was nothing new for Wantagh, who have now won five matches by 25 points or more so far this season.
Wantagh can attribute much of their success to Jake Martini, who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and Dylan Martini, who rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Glen Cove's victory bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Wantagh, their win was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Glen Cove was dealt a bruising 42-0 defeat at the hands of Wantagh in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Glen Cove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
