Volleyball Recap: Sidney Red Raiders vs. Scottsbluff Bearcats
Sidney was the 3-1 winner over Scottsbluff when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Raiders fell just short of the Bearcats by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. While the Red Raiders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bearcats 25-21 in the first set.
Sidney started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 21-25, 21-25, 30-28, 25-18, 15-12.
Reagan Nesbitt paced Sidney's offense, picking up 19 kills. Nesbitt got some help from Ava Witte and her 39 assists. Finally, Nesbitt was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high six blocks.
Scottsbluff got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lillian Hays out in front who had 20 digs and one block. Those 20 digs gave Hays a new career-high. Alainah Salas was another key player, getting 34 digs and three assists.
Sidney has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for Scottsbluff, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10.
Coincidentally, Sidney and Scottsbluff will both be playing Stevens the next time they take the court. The Bearcats will host the Raiders on Friday, while the Red Raiders will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
