Soccer Game Preview: Arleta vs. Chavez

The Arleta Mustangs will head out to face off against the Chavez Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Arleta's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Grant 3-0. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, Chavez beat Verdugo Hills 2-0 on Friday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Dons are ranked 891st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jose Aviles and Eduardo Sicaja scored both of Chavez's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 24 goals.

Chavez is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 27 goals over those seven matchups. As for Arleta, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2-1.

Everything went Arleta's way against Chavez in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Arleta made off with a 5-1 win. In that contest, Arleta amassed a halftime lead of 4-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
