Basketball Recap: Marion Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Maliyah Williams and Jaeda Davis

Marion was the 40-36 winner over Loris when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Marion Swamp Foxes lost to the Loris Lions on the road by a 54-40 margin on Saturday.

Jaeda Davis and Maliyah Williams certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Davis posted 15 points, while Williams put up 13 points.

Leading Loris to victory were Janiya Richburg and Dazena Capers. Richburg dropped a double-double on ten points and 18 rebounds, while Capers went 8 of 13 on her way to 19 points. Richburg has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Janyshia Brown, who had eight points and six rebounds.

Marion's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Loris, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Marion wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-36 loss against Carvers Bay on the 30th. As for Loris, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Loris Lions face off against the Dillon Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
