Baseball Game Preview: Lockport Porters vs. Ventura Cougars

The Lockport Porters will take on the Ventura Cougars in a tournament on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Ventura will be up against a hot Lockport team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Lockport came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against George Washington. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Porters have posted since May 6, 2024.

Matt Fox looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on David Kundrat, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Joey DalPonte was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, Ventura got the win against Grant Community on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-3. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.

Liam Stohlman looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Wylan Nelson was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carter Kimble, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Ventura lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Ventura has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. Lockport's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.
