Basketball Recap: Laurel Hill Takes a Loss

Laurel Hill lost against Freeport back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Laurel Hill Hoboes lost to the Freeport Bulldogs on the road by a 74-57 margin. While losing is never fun, the Hoboes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 720th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 299th).

It was another big night for Julius Miles, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 17 rebounds for Freeport. That makes it three consecutive games in which Miles has scored at least a third of Freeport's points. Brett Horton also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Laurel Hill's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-14. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Freeport, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Laurel Hill won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Northview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Laurel Hill is facing Northview at the right time seeing as Northview is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Freeport, they will host Bozeman at 1:15 p.m. on Monday.
