Baseball Game Preview: St. Agnes Aggies vs. St. Croix Prep Lions

St. Agnes is a perfect 10-0 against St. Croix Prep since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Aggies will host the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While St. Agnes' victory against Nova Classical Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Aggies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Knights on Tuesday. The Aggies haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Danny Plamann was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of St. Agnes' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, St. Croix Prep got themselves on the board against New Life Academy on Monday, but New Life Academy never followed suit. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 4-0.

St. Agnes pushed their record up to 7-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Croix Prep, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7.

Everything went St. Agnes' way against St. Croix Prep in their previous matchup back in April, as St. Agnes made off with a 9-1 victory. Will the Aggies repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
