Baseball Game Preview: Saint Andrew's Scots vs. Forest Hill Falcons

The Saint Andrew's Scots will challenge the Forest Hill Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

Saint Andrew's is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering St. John Paul II Academy just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 9-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Scots couldn't push the score so high this time.

Luccas Mendez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Forest Hill ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over Dr. Joaquin Garcia. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since February 10th.

Victor Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Nick Seal was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Forest Hill's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Ryan Gonzalez was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Forest Hill has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Saint Andrew's, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-6-1.
