Basketball Recap: Northwest Skates Past Newton with Ease

Northwest posted their biggest win since December 10, 2024 on Friday. They blew past the Newton Railroaders, posting a 74-45 victory. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Railroaders are ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northwest's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dj Brown, who went 12 of 18 en route to 25 points. Elijah Benning was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine assists.

The victory snapped Northwest's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-3 record. As for Newton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

Northwest has already played their next contest, an 85-69 win against Maize on the 25th. As for Newton, they will take on Arkansas City on Tuesday.
