Softball Recap: Boone Sets Scoring Season-High Against University

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Boone). They never let the University Cougars get on the board and left with a 23-0 win on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Samantha Johnson looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aracelys Gonzalez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with six stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Emelia Martin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Boone hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 7-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Boone has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for University, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boone will head out to take on Seminole at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for University, they will venture away from home to square off against Dr. Phillips at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 11.3 runs per game this season.
