Basketball Recap: Springer Falls Despite Big Games from Darian Roberts and Sammy Gardner

Springer lost against Elmore City-Pernell back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Springer Cardinals took a 77-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elmore City-Pernell Badgers. Even though they lost, the Cardinals' still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Springer's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sammy Gardner, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 28 points and seven rebounds, and Darian Roberts, who went 6 for 13 to rack up 20 points. Those 20 points gave Roberts a new career-high. Braden Bostic was another key player, putting up 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Springer and nudges their season record down to 14-10. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points over those games. As for Elmore City-Pernell, they pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Coming up, Springer is taking a road trip to take on Soper at 6:00 p.m. on February 14th. Elmore City-Pernell has already played their next matchup (against Empire), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
