After both having extra time off, the Clinton Cougars and the Racine Lutheran Crusaders will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clinton is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Last Tuesday, Clinton didn't have quite enough to beat Big Foot and fell 3-2.
Clinton took Big Foot into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 23-25, 25-11, 15-8.
Despite their loss, Clinton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kiana Stahl, who had 17 digs and 15 assists, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Maryn Waite, who had eight digs and three aces.
Meanwhile, Racine Lutheran suffered their biggest defeat since September 25th on Tuesday. They came up short against The Prairie School, falling 3-0. Crusaders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Hawks since Tuesday.
Racine Lutheran might've come up short, but they didn't make it easy on The Prairie School: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-23, 25-22.
Like Clinton, Racine Lutheran lost despite seeing results from several players. Sophia Schatzman led the charge by getting 11 digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Evie Gamroth, who had five digs and two aces.
Clinton's record now sits at 7-18. As for Racine Lutheran, their record is now 14-14.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Clinton has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.4 aces per game. However, it's not like Racine Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
