Basketball Recap: Alleghany Snags Eighth Victory in Last Ten Games

There's no place like home for Alleghany, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. Everything went their way against the Glenvar Highlanders on Friday as the Alleghany Cougars made off with a 55-33 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 22 points or more this season.

Alleghany had a senior duo take command as Bryce Leitch dropped a double-double on 33 points and 13 boards and Kelsey Nicely dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it 17 consecutive games in which Leitch has scored at least a third of Alleghany's points.

Alleghany smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Alleghany has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.7 points over those games. As for Glenvar, they are on a 40-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-18.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alleghany will face off against Floyd County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Glenvar, they will venture away from home to take on James River at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
