Softball Recap: Parkersburg Triumphs

Parkersburg not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 20, 2024. They put the hurt on the Capital Cougars with a sharp 6-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Big Reds in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won eight in a row.

Shelby Mercer was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).

Parkersburg hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Capital struck out eight times.

Parkersburg's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Capital, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Coming up, Parkersburg will host South Charleston at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Capital, they will venture away from home to challenge Huntington at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Huntington has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.33 runs per game on average), something Capital will no doubt try to take advantage of.
