Cary has gone 6-1 against Riverside-Durham recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Imps will square off against the Pirates at 1:00 p.m. Cary has now lost ten straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 12.
Green Level hit Cary with a 14-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Imps came up short against the Gators, falling 22-7.
Catherine Baker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Ava Spey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Riverside-Durham). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Hillside a 23-0 shutout on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Grace Arrington made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Arrington was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Grayson Knotts was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nehir Volkan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Riverside-Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .742. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Riverside-Durham is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Cary, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
Cary suffered a grim 23-8 defeat to Riverside-Durham in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can the Imps avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
