Softball Recap: Sweet Home Takes a Loss

Sweet Home had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-8 to make it ten. They lost 12-0 to the Orchard Park Quakers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 9-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

As for Orchard Park, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Orchard Park's part, the team relied heavily on Ella Hernandez, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Hernandez has posted since back in April. Madeline McDermott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Coming up, Sweet Home is taking a road trip to square off against Clarence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Orchard Park, they will welcome Frontier at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Quakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
