Preview: Vienna Eagles vs. Goreville Blackcats
The Vienna Eagles will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Goreville Blackcats at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Vienna was able to grind out a solid victory over Carmi-White County, taking the game 54-42.
Meanwhile, Goreville stacked a 14th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hamilton County 74-47 on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Goreville who now have five in a row.
Abby Compton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 35 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Breanna Suits was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 assists.
Vienna is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Goreville, their victory bumped their record up to 22-2.
Vienna couldn't quite finish off Goreville in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 and fell 50-47. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Compton, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. Now that Vienna knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
