Baseball Recap: Valders Takes a Loss

Valders dropped their record down to 8-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Brillion Lions, falling 12-2. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lions earlier this season, when they won 6-1.

Valders saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Scheffler, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.

As for Brillion, the victory got them back to even at 9-9. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

On Brillion's side, Chase Braun was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Braun has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. He has become a key player for Brillion: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Aiden Reinke was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Blake Kettner, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
