Baseball Recap: Webster Schroeder Comes Up Short

Webster Schroeder had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 5-9 to make it five. They fell 11-6 to the Penfield Patriots. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 12-1.

As for Penfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Penfield's part, Blake Drews looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Drews is becoming a predictor of the Patriots' success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Mark Luciano and Landen Belliard did most of the damage at the plate: Luciano got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Belliard went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Luciano has become a key player for Penfield: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nathan Scozzaro, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Webster Schroeder will welcome Brighton at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Penfield, they will head out on the road to take on Fairport at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
