Palmer Ridge had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Coronado on Saturday. The Bears blew past the Cougars 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Jameson Wheeler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jace Gagnon, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Palmer Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Lewis-Palmer's offense. They fell just short of Pine Creek by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Rangers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Jake Provencio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
Palmer Ridge now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Lewis-Palmer, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Palmer Ridge has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lewis-Palmer struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Palmer Ridge might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Lewis-Palmer in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
