Baseball Recap: Beachwood Comes Up Short

Beachwood had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-5 to make it four. They fell just short of the Hawken Hawks by a score of 3-2. If the Bison were looking for revenge after losing 4-3 to the Hawks when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jaycob Zabell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Caleb White was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

As for Hawken, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 4th.

On Hawken's side, Ethan Gipson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Gipson has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cole Twardokus, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Brandt, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

While Beachwood had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
