Softball Game Preview: Cookeville Cavaliers vs. Clay County Bulldogs

The Cookeville Cavaliers will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Clay County Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cookeville is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Upperman. Cookeville came out on top against Upperman by a score of 6-1 on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Cavaliers sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row dating back to last season.

Ella Dudney made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kadie Presley, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Breanna Green was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Clay County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Monterey 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Cookeville took their win against Clay County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2. Does Cookeville have another victory up their sleeve, or will Clay County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
