Softball Recap: Red Bud Extends Winning Streak to Two

Ten must be Red Bud's lucky number: they beat Crab Orchard with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Musketeers never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Musketeers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.

Julia Ohlau was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Julia Whelan was a standout: she earned one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Lilly Minemann, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Red Bud was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Red Bud and bumps their season record up to 19-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Crab Orchard, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 25-3.

Red Bud's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hamilton County at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Musketeers' pitcher better be ready for this one: the Foxes have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Crab Orchard, they will face off against Century at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Trojans have won five straight at home, while the Centurions won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
