Baseball Recap: Northern York Comes Up Short

Northern York extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 6-9. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Donegal Indians. The Polar Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

James Kirkland was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

As for Donegal, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Donegal's side, Tommy Hairhoger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Donegal secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Evan Niehaus, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northern York will host Big Spring at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Polar Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Donegal, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cocalico at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
