Football Game Preview: North Buncombe Black Hawks vs. Asheville Cougars + How To Watch

North Buncombe hasn't had much luck against Asheville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Black Hawks are taking a road trip to face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. North Buncombe has given up an average of 29.9 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, North Buncombe took a blow against A.C. Reynolds, falling 47-7. While losing is never fun, the Black Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Rockets are ranked 69th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Asheville, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They snuck past Erwin with a 41-35 win on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their seven-point performance the game before.

North Buncombe better keep an eye on Tay Williams. He was instrumental in Asheville's win, throwing for 313 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in three rushing scores. Those 313 passing yards gave Williams a new career-high.

The victory snapped Asheville's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-5 record. As for North Buncombe, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

North Buncombe was dealt a bruising 67-0 loss at the hands of Asheville when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Black Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
