Baseball Game Preview: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. Fike Demons

Smithfield-Selma is on a ten-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Fike a seven-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Tuesday. The Smithfield-Selma Spartans will look to defend their home field against the Fike Demons at 6:00 p.m. Smithfield-Selma has given up an average of 15.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Friday just wasn't the day for Smithfield-Selma's offense. They lost 15-0 to Hunt on Friday.

Smithfield-Selma saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Thigpen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Fike never let their opponents score on Friday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over South Johnston.

The result came thanks to Evan Ferrell's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Spencer Bass, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Charlie Maddrey was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Fike's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Smithfield-Selma, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Smithfield-Selma suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Fike in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Smithfield-Selma avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
