Baseball Game Preview: Burrillville Broncos vs. East Greenwich Avengers

Burrillville is 0-3 against East Greenwich since May of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Broncos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Avengers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Burrillville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: North Providence, who was ranked tenth at the time (Burrillville was ranked 12th). The Broncos put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 13-2 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Daniel Delmonaco made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Furtado, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Jack Dichiaro was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Burrillville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, East Greenwich entered their tilt with St. Raphael Academy on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Saints.

Burrillville's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for East Greenwich, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Burrillville might still be hurting after the 11-2 loss they got from East Greenwich when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Broncos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
