Basketball Game Preview: Buena Colts vs. Pueblo Warriors

The Buena Colts will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Pueblo Warriors at 7:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, Buena came up short against Flowing Wells and fell 50-37. The Colts have struggled against the Caballeros recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Meanwhile, Pueblo had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Jaguars 86-32. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 25 points or more this season.

Pueblo's win came from a few key players Buena will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was America Cazares, who went 12 for 14 on her way to 25 points in addition to eight steals and five boards. The contest was her 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Galindo, who went 10 of 15 on her way to 25 points in addition to six assists and four steals.

Pueblo was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Pueblo pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.4 points per game. As for Buena, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Buena was dealt a bruising 82-36 defeat at the hands of Pueblo when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Buena, Victoria Cazares (who went 10 for 14 on her way to 26 points in addition to eight boards and three steals) won't be suiting up this time.
