Baseball Game Preview: Burnet Bulldogs vs. Regents Knights

The Burnet Bulldogs will square off against the Regents Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Burnet will be strutting in after a win while Regents will be coming in after a loss.

On Monday, everything went Burnet's way against Fredericksburg as Burnet made off with a 12-2 victory. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Billies recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Burnet got a great performance from Cooper Faris as he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest earned runs Faris has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Noah Crawford, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Colt Stanford was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Burnet always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fredericksburg only posted an OBP of .333.

Meanwhile, Regents didn't have quite enough to beat Antonian Prep on Saturday and fell 4-3. The Knights have struggled against the Apaches recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Blake Mott was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Mott is also crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stolen at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Jack Buerkle, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Burnet now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Regents, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Everything went Burnet's way against Regents in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, as Burnet made off with a 15-3 victory. Does Burnet have another victory up their sleeve, or will Regents turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
