It was a good run, but Smithfield-Selma unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Clayton Comets, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2021.

The final score came out to 25-11, 25-12, 25-7.

Kaylie Gilyardi paced Smithfield-Selma's offense, picking up four kills. Gilyardi got some help from Karmen Cyrus and her eight assists. Luna Colon controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Smithfield-Selma's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Clayton, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Smithfield-Selma has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Garner on the 2nd. As for Clayton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Southeast Raleigh on the 2nd.
