Football Game Preview: Rio Hondo Bobcats vs. Falfurrias Fightin' Jerseys

Rio Hondo is a perfect 3-0 against Falfurrias since October of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rio Hondo has five straight victories, Falfurrias has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Friday, Rio Hondo was fully in charge, breezing past Bishop 55-20. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 21 points or more this season.

Rio Hondo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mario Lopez, who rushed for 150 yards and five touchdowns. Lopez is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Lopez, who rushed for 32 yards and a pair of scores.

Rio Hondo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jaziah Arredondo, Michael Lopez, and Joel Medina picked up one apiece. Marcus Flores was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making seven total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Falfurrias ended up a good deal behind Lyford last Friday and lost 20-6.

Rio Hondo's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Falfurrias, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Everything came up roses for Rio Hondo against Falfurrias when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 49-21 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Fightin' Jerseys' Jaxon Garcia, who threw for 187 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 61 yards.
