Baseball Recap: West Florence Drops Highest Score of Season Against Wilson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Florence). They put the hurt on the Wilson Tigers with a sharp 21-2 win on Wednesday. With that victory, the Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Matthew Brown, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Dalton Mitchell was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Florence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.6.

West Florence pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Wilson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.

West Florence will host Westwood at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wilson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
