Softball Recap: Hand Comes Up Short

Hand fell victim to Trumbull and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 17-0 to the Eagles. The game marked the first time this season in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.

Campbell Leckey put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Bella Fahy made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Phoebe Brennan, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Hand's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Trumbull, their record is now 5-2.

Hand has already played their next matchup, a 15-1 win against Hamden on the 24th. As for Trumbull, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 20-1 victory against McMahon on the 22nd.
