Volleyball Recap: Philip Simmons Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Woodmont

Philip Simmons faced Woodmont in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Iron Horses took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The Iron Horses have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.

The 2-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-22.

Gabby Kakalev paced Philip Simmons' offense, picking up five kills. Kakalev got some help from Dani Gehringer and her 11 assists. Kakalev was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 31-5. As for Woodmont, they are on a roll lately: they've won 22 of their last 23 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 29-4 record this season.

Philip Simmons will head out on the road to face off against Andrews at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Woodmont, they have already played their next matchup, a 2-1 defeat against Mountain View Prep on the 11th.
