Baseball Recap: Fernley Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Fernley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Elko Indians on Friday. For the Vaqueros, this counts as revenge for the 7-6 win the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Dylon Comer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has become a key player for Fernley: the team is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-12-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Riley McCullar was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Fernley is 6-2 when McCullar posts two or more runs, but 3-12-1 otherwise.

Fernley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-14-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Elko, they now have a losing record of 13-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fernley beat the Indians by a score of 10-9 on Saturday.
