Basketball Recap: Mancos Comes Up Short

Mancos was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 22nd straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 66-17 defeat at the hands of the Dove Creek Bulldogs. The Bluejays were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-10.

Dove Creek was led to victory by Liam Hassell and Trevan Ivie. Hassell dropped a double-double with 20 points and 17 boards, while Ivie almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. Hassell's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Gardner, who posted six points in addition to ten rebounds and seven assists.

Mancos' loss dropped their record down to 0-21. As for Dove Creek, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 16-5.

Looking ahead, Mancos will look to defend their home court on Friday against Dolores. Dolores has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Dove Creek, they will take on Ouray at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Ouray has won four straight at home, while Dove Creek won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
