Baseball Recap: Vernon Hills Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Antioch, Vernon Hills was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Deerfield Warriors 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Cougars: when they faced off against the Warriors back in April, they had to take a 8-5 loss.

Robert Miller looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Vernon Hills is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-20-1 otherwise.

At the plate, DJ Biede was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Tyler Perritt, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

Vernon Hills' victory bumped their record up to 10-21-1. As for Deerfield, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-19.

Coincidentally, Vernon Hills and Deerfield will both be playing Grant Community the next time they take the field. The Cougars will head out to face the Bulldogs at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, while the Warriors will host them at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
