Basketball Recap: West Jordan Beats Taylorsville for Their Fifth Straight Win

West Jordan hadn't done well against Taylorsville recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The West Jordan Jaguars snuck past the Taylorsville Warriors with a 67-62 win. The victory was nothing new for the Jaguars as they're now sitting on five straight.

Leading West Jordan to victory were Giselle Muffett and Erilyn Lokeni. Muffett posted 25 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals, while Lokeni dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards. The game was Muffett's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Francine McIntyre was another key player, putting up eight points and five rebounds.

West Jordan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, Taylorsville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Karen Jones earned 25 points and five assists. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for Jones. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlin Sterzer, who put up eight points and 17 boards.

West Jordan's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Taylorsville, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-10 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Jordan will host Cyprus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. West Jordan knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Cyprus likes a good challenge. Taylorsville has already played their next game (against Hunter), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
