Football Preview: Corinth Riverhawks vs. Cambridge/Salem

The Corinth Riverhawks will head out on the road to face off against Cambridge/Salem at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Corinth's offense might be in the hot seat on Saturday considering what happened against Greenwich on Friday. They were dealt a 68-0 loss at the hands of the Witches. The Riverhawks haven't had much luck with the Witches recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, while Cambridge/Salem put up plenty of points on Saturday, the same can't be said for Voorheesville. Cambridge/Salem breezed by Voorheesville on the road to the tune of 35-0. Given Cambridge/Salem's advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Voorheesville is ranked 407th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cambridge/Salem got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Baxter Mattson out in front who picked up 50 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown. Mattson's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Another back making a difference was Isaiah Lohret, who rushed for 176 yards while picking up 9.8 yards per carry.

Corinth's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Cambridge/Salem, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Corinth took a serious blow against Cambridge/Salem when the teams last played back in September of 2018, falling 62-6. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Corinth was down 48-0.
