Softball Preview: Westlake Warriors vs. Saugus Centurions
The Westlake Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Saugus Centurions at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, everything went Westlake's way against Simi Valley as Westlake made off with a 9-2 win.
Presley Waters spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Dani Shinko was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Samy Gallegos, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Saugus scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Castaic a 25-0 shutout. The victory was nothing new for Saugus as they're now sitting on seven straight.
Saugus also got a great performance from Kona Ramsbottom as she didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Saugus let Kaylie Stauffer and Amelia Johnson loose on the outfield. Stauffer went 3-for-4 with a home run, seven RBI, and a double, while Johnson went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Brianna Coe, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Westlake is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. As for Saugus, they pushed their record up to 17-8 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
