Baseball Recap: Carrick Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Carrick got themselves on the board against Aquinas Academy on Friday, but Aquinas Academy never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 win over the Crusaders. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.

Riley Mares made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Wittmann, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.

Carrick's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Aquinas Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Coming up, Carrick will square off against Perry Traditional Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders are facing the Commodores at the right time seeing as the Commodores are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Aquinas Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 3-2 loss against Rochester on the 5th.
