Baseball Recap: Chattanooga Christian Wins Going Away Against Mccallie

Chattanooga Christian hadn't done well against McCallie recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Chargers blew past the Blue Tornado 14-7. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.

Keegan Nieckula and Owen Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Nieckula went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Brown scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. Those three runs gave Brown a new career-high. Andrew Petty was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Chattanooga Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Chattanooga Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7-1 record this season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-8 Notre Dame and 8-11 McCallie (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for McCallie, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chattanooga Christian will head out to face off against Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers are facing the Fighting Irish at the right time seeing as the Fighting Irish are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for McCallie, they will venture away from home to challenge Red Bank at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
