Baseball Game Preview: Fruita Monument Wildcats vs. Lakewood Tigers

The Fruita Monument Wildcats will square off against the Lakewood Tigers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lakewood took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Fruita Monument, who comes in off a win.

Fruita Monument is returning to their home field after beating Grand Junction on theirs, despite the fact Grand Junction has dominated at home this season. The Wildcats walked away with a 6-3 win over the Tigers on Friday.

Josh Weaver was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Noah Brackett was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Lakewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Valor Christian, falling 12-2.

Fruita Monument is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Lakewood, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

Fruita Monument skirted past Lakewood 5-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
