Volleyball Recap: Keleigh Ochoa Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Phillipsburg

After losing to Phillipsburg the last time they met, Smith Center decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Redmen had just enough and edged out the Panthers 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Redmen have posted against the Panthers since October 15, 2022.

Smith Center wouldn't go down easily and took Phillipsburg into a fifth set where they got it done with a nine-point win. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15, 15-6.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smith Center to victory, but perhaps none more so than Keleigh Ochoa, who had 18 digs. Those 18 digs gave Ochoa a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Karper Franklin, who had 15 digs and two assists.

The win made it two in a row for Smith Center and bumps their season record up to 6-6. As for Phillipsburg, their defeat ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4.

Smith Center has already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against Otis-Bison on the 27th. As for Phillipsburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-1 loss against Chapman on the 25th.
