Baseball Game Preview: Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils vs. University Liggett Knights

The Grosse Pointe South Blue Devils will face off against the University Liggett Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Grosse Pointe South 2.5, University Liggett 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

University Liggett will be up against a hot Grosse Pointe South squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Blue Devils came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Grosse Pointe North.

Dane Lezotte spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Grosse Pointe South's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Evan Bernard, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Bloomfield Hills hit University Liggett with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights lost 8-1 to the Black Hawks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Knights have suffered since April 16th.

Grosse Pointe South's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 27-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for University Liggett, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-10-1.

Everything went Grosse Pointe South's way against University Liggett in their previous meeting on May 2nd, as Grosse Pointe South made off with an 8-0 win. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
