Softball Recap: Cumberland Has No Trouble Against Arcola

Cumberland lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Arcola, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. The Pirates blew past the Purple Riders 20-10 on Thursday. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 11-9 win the Purple Riders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Mia Holsapple was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Lauren Schnepper was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jude Miller, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Cumberland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Arcola, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cumberland will challenge Flora on Saturday. As for Arcola, they will take on Warrensburg-Latham at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
